What is a Phobia?

A phobia is often an unexplainable fear you have of certain objects or situations, it is persistent and completely debilitating on occasion. People can go to great lengths to avoid situations in which their phobia might be prominent, it is a sign of internal anxiety that you feel like you cannot control since it’s nested so deep within.

You might feel a strong sense of avoidance linked with your phobia, perhaps avoiding situations where you could be subjected to your fear or phobia. This could mean avoiding travel abroad due to a fear of flying, or neglecting your health through your phobia of going to the doctors.

  • Heart palpitations and tightening of the chest
  • Sweating and trembling
  • Dizziness, shortage of breath
  • Lack of control, or fear of not being in control
  • Going empty-minded or fear of this happening, losing ability to rationalise thoughts
  • Acrophobia – fear of heights
  • Agoraphobia – fear of open spaces
  • Aichmophobia – fear of needles
  • Arachnophobia – fear of spiders
  • Aviatophobia – fear of flying
  • Claustrophobia – fear of enclosed spaces
  • Coprophobia – toilet phobia, fear of going to the toilet
  • Demophobia – fear of crowds
  • Dentophobia – fear of dentists
  • Emetophobia – fear of being sick or vomit phobia
  • Glossophobia – fear of public speaking
  • Hemophobia – fear of blood
  • Hydrophobia – fear of water
  • Iatrophobia – fear of doctors or fear of going to the doctor
  • Misophobia – fear of dirt or germs
  • Myctophobia – fear of darkness
  • Nosocomephobia – fear of hospitals
  • Nyctophobia – fear of darkness
  • Odontophobia – fear of dentists
  • Scopophobia – fear of being judged
  • Thanatophobia – fear of death or fear of dying
  • Trypanophobia – fear of injections

One phobia listed above is Scopophobia – the fear of being stared at or judged – is commonly known as Social Phobia, or social anxiety. It is quite possibly the most common phobia found in people today and it stems from being worried about being the centre of attention, being humiliated by your actions in public or judged on what you do.

  • Do you struggle speaking in public or in front of crowds? Or in interviews, making presentations or even social events such as parties?
  • Do you overreact to criticism and take things too harshly?
  • Do you consider yourself inferior and look at yourself negatively?
  • Do you fear you’ll be rejected for not being good enough?
  • Do you always think about how others view you and their thoughts on you?

Then you’re most likely suffering from Social Phobia, it’s a very common thing and entirely treatable through my methods. Another one of the most common phobias is the fear of being sick – Emetophobia – or even the fear of being around those who are sick. These can both completely shut a person down with terror but are fully treatable! I can help rid you of these crippling phobias.

Most phobias develop at an early childhood age when a fear of something was so immense, but emotionally you couldn’t comprehend or process it. These emotions are then bottled up to such a point where you express fear when attempting to deal with them, and to make matters worse these emotions are hidden deep within your subconscious memory, completely hidden from your active thoughts so you’re unaware of them even existing.

Phobias can also develop through second-hand means such as watching a family member or loved one experience fear through their own means. When you see your brother or sister frequently being frightened of the dentist, it’s entirely possible to associate those emotions with your own. Of course there are more severe traumatic events such as car crashes and losing loved ones to develop phobias of travel or sickness as well.
